Dear all, I am a Banker with an experience spanning almost 5 years in Corporate Sales/Acquisition and Servicing. Besides, my Educational qualifications encompass a Bachelor of Business Administration (3years) and a 2 year Post Graduate Diploma in Business Administration (Marketing and Finance)
Now, at this point I am willing to take a turn in my Career prospect and make a switch to an ERP (SAP or as you would suggest..) based profile. I would prefer to keep my Banking Experience handy in the new switch.
A little about my Current Profile - I am a Assistant Manager for Business Banking, i.e. my Roles and Responsibilities primarily deal with the Credit Appraisal, Banking Operations, Forex and Risk Management and majorily functioning on Acquisition of High Net Worth Corporate Clients and servicing the same. In a nutshell it deals with Frontline Sales and Servicing aspects (Client Relationship Management) in Bank. I also have operational experience with the Front End Banking Application 'Finacle' as it is the prime application upon which most of the Banks work.
Now, I do not have any core functional experience in ERP, and this might be a Fresh Start, but here I would be grateful if you could suggest a pathway via which I could work on ERP in the Banking domain.
What I need to know is - 1. Is it actually feasible for someone with my experience to make a switch to such an avenue as ERP? 2. If Yes, then what are the tools (Training / Certification etc..) necessary for equipping myself to make this transition from a Core Sales profile in a Bank to a more ERP based Analytical one (preferably in a Banking Domain)? 3. Whether there is any avenue other than SAP, for example BI, Analytics, IS - Banking (whatever that is), which might be more suited for my profile.
Will be much grateful for you replies and insights. Am really looking forward to a move.
Thanks
Kalpesh Chouhan.

Hi. I have been reading some of the queries on SAP and career prospects. I would like to share my views.
Any graduate or post graduate can get in to SAP. Typically, SAP Functional Consultants are expected to have a domain experience in the respective fields. For example,. Financial Accounting, Production Planning, Human Resources, Inventory Management, Sales, Marketing.
For those wanting to get in to technical aspects, ABAP or Basis in SAP would be suitable. Ideally you must have a decent programming or System Administration exposure or knowledge but even freshers can learn ABAP/Basis.
Do not make the mistake and waste your time by joining training institutes-genuine or fake. Also Certification would hardly help. They will promise the world but most will fail to even impart basic foundation training. Plus job is always going to be an area of concern as Industry is mostly allergic to freshers.
Join an organisation where you can get an opportunity to get trained as well as exposed to projects. That is the best way to gain entry into SAP. Remember, a prospective employer needs to be convinced you can add value to his projects. That fact also has to clearly come out of your resume for you to get shortlisted for interviews in the first place.
I would like to mention that passion, commitment and persistence would be required if you are wanting to get into SAP. If you are ready for that, you can really look forward to a glorious SAP Career.
Any one wanting a one to one career guidance session is most welcome to call me at 8550920788
Regards

Hi, i have 10 years of experience as a Mechanical design engineer in rail domain where i used to design the Mono rail & metro trains, which involved in production. i have worked in canada at client location, where we use SAP PP as an end user for purchasing orders and involved in MRP meetings and preparing BOM using PDM (Product data management). For SAP HR.HCM, you need to have good knowledge of Payroll Management, Time Management, Compensation & Benefits, Organization Management etc. If you are comfortable with programming, you can take up ABAP (a technical module)
